Description

We are seeking to recruit a passionate, flexible, experienced Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic Adapt & Live team. The ideal candidate will have experience of working with community equipment and is looking for a challenge which offers diversity and the opportunity to use their knowledge and skills to support the development of services with colleagues in the NHS, local authority and commercial sector.

The successful applicant will work as a member of a multidisciplinary team, working alongside colleagues to provide services to disabled and older people, their carers, allied health professionals and others.

The role involves providing advice and information, including on the helpline, as well as carrying out assessments and training.

Disabled Living provides support, advice and information, helping people to live with independence for as long as possible and enhance quality of life. The charity encompasses a range of services that support adults, children, older people and professionals.

The Adapt & Live team support the work of the charity by providing high quality, impartial advice to service users. They deliver a range of occupational therapy and moving handling training and assessments to facilitate safer, easier independent living.


Role

Activities in the role include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Assessment: The applicant will undertake occupational therapy and moving and handling assessments into the needs of clients and their carers. Clients will have a wide range of abilities/ disabilities, including additional physical, developmental, sensory, learning, and mental health needs. The applicant will need to make all relevant considerations in their recommendations, including legal, financial and ethical considerations, and carry out appropriate signposting. Where necessary and appropriate, considering the involvement and needs of various stakeholders including: carers and family members; housing providers; commercial partners; services and other agencies.
  • Specialist advice: Provide advice through the helpline service, responding appropriately to unique requests for information from service users (members of the public, carers, professionals). Where required, carry out consultancy with various stakeholders to develop services and products as part of partnership work. Provide advice to staff across the various services on issues of best practice, legislation, accessibility etc.
  • Training: Develop, plan and deliver OT, moving and handling and Trusted Assessor training, at a range of possible locations regionally and nationally. To work with management to develop new training opportunities.
  • Outreach: Develop Disabled Living’s network of organisations, support groups and services. Produce materials (information resources, articles etc) to reach new and existing audiences. Work with Disabled Living colleagues to deliver exhibitions and other events across the UK.
  • Information management: Complete assessment forms, case records and care plans, and maintain all documentation in line with legislation, professional guidelines and organisational policy. Contribute to documentation processes to meet commissioning and accreditation requirements. Ensure that information is duly processed onto the Disabled Living CRM system.
