RoSPA Level 2 Award in Proportionate Handling

About this course

Proportionate /single handed care (also known as optimal handed care) encourages a more personalised approach to supporting a person’s moving and handling requirements. This ensures the person receives the optimum amount of care and support in the correct environment. Proportionate care is an enabling approach. By enabling individuals to do as much for themselves as possible, we reduce the likelihood of the individual becoming deconditioned and being readmitted to hospital or admitted to a long-term care facility.

Why enrol in this course?

This RoSPA accredited course allows for tailored support that meets individual needs, providing greater flexibility and improved outcomes for individuals while increasing efficiency for care providers.

Proportionate/single handed care is less invasive and more person-centred. With fewer carers and a real opportunity to build relationships, the individual receiving support will feel part of the care team as opposed to “being done to”, this often results in feeling less isolated and more enabled which will improve dignity and trust for both parties.

The vocational qualification is designed to help learners effectively implement proportionate / single-handed care, enhancing their underpinning knowledge to embed the proportionate care ethos within their service. Practical skills and an increased competency in using a range of equipment and techniques confidently help ensure dignity independence and engagement for the individuals being supported with added flexibility while prioritising the health and safety of both individuals and caregivers.
